Hope for Haiti Now Telethon

Did anyone watch the Hope for Haiti Now telethon last Friday night? I did and I thought they really did a good job with it. They had tons of celebrities answering the phones and they featured performances from every genre of music that I enjoyed watching. As of yesterday, the telethon had raised 57 million dollars.

The footage and stories they told from Haiti were, like all the others we've seen, heartbreaking; however, the miracles of survival were uplifting. The hardest thing for me to watch was the story about the orphans. So many helpless babies and children that no longer have their parents made me appreciate Kirsten so much more. After I saw the story about the orphans, I walked in her nursery and just stood watching her sleep. I said a prayer and thanked God for her and her health. It made me realize how precious every moment I have with her truly is. I also made the decision to be more appreciative of every moment I have with her - even the ones that come early in the morning. Every morning when Kirsten wakes up, I normally groan and dream of the days when I could sleep in. Now, I've decided that I will thank God every morning for waking us both up and allowing us to see another day.

My sweet Kirsten, when you were only 6 months old, a devastating earthquake hit the country of Haiti in January of 2010. Hundreds of thousands of lives were lost and over a million people were left with no homes. It was one of the worst natural disasters in history and one day I imagine you will study about this trajedy in your history lessons. One thing I'd like for you to know is that out of this trajedy came an outpouring of generosity from the world which says a lot for not only the country we live in but for other countries that sent aid as well.
